Role: UX /UI Designer (Solo Project)
Timeline: 8 weeks
Platform: Responsive website
About the project
In this design proposal, I was tasked with creating a new online contest microsite for a fictitious gym. The mission was to create a compelling, interactive microsite that connected the brand with its fans.
The problem and the solution
The gym has a personal training service, but there are not many customers using it. The reason is because they are not offering a free session before asking the gym members to commit the full sessions. People don’t know which personal trainers are good, and it’s quite pricey to jump straight into it before trying. My solution to this problem was to provide free personal training sessions as a reward to the contest winner. This helped solve the problem while also promoting the gym's personal trainer service to their members by providing profiles for each trainer.

Tools I used for the project

Approach
Before creating the prototype, I began by building a concept strategy. It helps me to outline my thought/plan.
Concept Strategy
-
Describe the concept
-
Create user personas
Flow Chart
-
Screens
-
Behaviors
Wireframes
Non-interactive & interactive Information

Analysis
Compile an analysis (using S.W.O.T. and Heuristics evaluations) of 5 competitor sites

Finalize
2nd iteration with updates
User Testing
Design the interface and make prototype
Art Direction
-
Mood boards
-
Style tiles
-
Conceptual mockup

Design
-
1st iteration
-
Test with users and getting feedbacks

Persona
I created a target user profile to try and determine why they would use the microsite as well as factors that might make them stop using it.

What I learned
This was my first time designing a website with a UI/UX thinking process. From this project, I learned that design is not just about the visuals, and design involves problem solving. In the design process, designers struggle to solve the problem with many aspects like, a lot of research, physiology principles, hierarchy, usability, accessibility, user testing and so on..., and being an autodidact is an essential skill to be a better designer.
Thank you for watching:)
